Is your Google watch battery normal?
Google publishes no capacity figure and no fault threshold for the Pixel Watch, and there is no battery-health reading on the device. Pixel Watch drain has twice followed a software update rather than battery age, so the register below is the first thing to check.
Known Google firmware drains
First, because it changes the answer. Every entry here started with a software release rather than an ageing battery — if your drain began the day you updated, this is the most likely cause.

Firmware June 2024 security update
Unexpected drain on first and second generation Pixel Watch.

What helps: Disabling car crash detection helped, at the cost of a safety feature — worth weighing rather than doing automatically.

What Google will actually tell you
On ageing: Google publishes no capacity-retention figure or fault threshold for the Pixel Watch. Adaptive charging, which limits degradation from sitting at 100%, exists only on Pixel Watch 4 and 5.
Reading battery health yourself: Google exposes no capacity figure on the watch, so the 24-hour idle test is the closest thing to a measurement an owner can take.
Google's own battery guidanceWhat to change on a Google, biggest saving first
Ordered by what it actually saves. Brand guidance usually is not — which is how “turn off music” ends up above “disable always-on” in a manual.

- Set Mobile Mode to Automatic or OffGoogle's own advice when a Pixel Watch is draining while connected to a network — an LTE radio hunting for signal is expensive.

Storing, charging and replacing
Storing it
Google publishes no storage charge range for the Pixel Watch. Adaptive charging — which limits the time the battery spends sitting at 100% and so limits degradation — exists only on Pixel Watch 4 and 5, so owners of earlier models carry that risk themselves.
Charging it
Pixel Watch uses a magnetic charger. Battery Saver engages automatically at 15%, which is worth knowing when judging the last part of a day — the watch is already throttling itself by then.
Replacing the batterynot published by the brand
Not user-replaceable; service goes through Google. No standard battery-service price is published for the Pixel Watch, and the repairability of the line has been widely criticised, so a quote before committing is worth having.
What the warranty covers
Google’s warranty covers manufacturing defects. With no published capacity threshold there is no stated line to point at, so an idle-test figure and the date the drain started — particularly if it coincides with an update — are the most useful things to bring.
Google battery questions
- Did a Pixel Watch update cause my battery drain?
- It has happened: owners of the first and second generation Pixel Watch reported unexpected drain after the June 2024 security update, and disabling the newly added car crash detection gave some relief — at the cost of a safety feature, which is a trade worth making deliberately rather than by default.
- Is mobile mode draining my Pixel Watch?
- Google’s own advice when a Pixel Watch loses charge too quickly on a network is to set Mobile Mode to Automatic or Off. A watch radio hunting for signal away from its phone is the most expensive thing an LTE model does.
- What is adaptive charging and do I have it?
- It limits how long the battery sits at 100%, which is one of the main causes of long-term capacity loss. On the Pixel Watch line it is available on the 4 and 5 only.
This is general information, not a diagnosis: it compares one figure you have given us against the runtime the manufacturer publishes, and we cannot measure your battery. Your manufacturer or an authorised service centre is the only place that can test it. Service pricing and warranty terms vary by country and change over time — treat the figures here as a starting point and confirm them with Google for your own model.
