Method
Smartwatches with a release date and a round case in our catalogue. Diameter and thickness are the published figures, not our own measurements, and thickness may leave out the sensor bump. Averages are means per release year. Editions sharing a brand, year and case size count once. We leave out rectangular cases, because their width isn't comparable with a diameter, plus fitness bands, hybrids and the current, incomplete year. The catalogue isn't a sales-weighted sample, and coverage varies: 2024 has only 27 cases. Download the data (CSV)
